SURFACE ARTS IS NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR BRAND NEW ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN BANGKOK AT HOF ART SPACE
Surface Arts and HOF Art bring artists together from around the world to concentrate on using collaborative practice to generate new work and new audiences.We aim to bring creative people from opposite sides of the world into one dynamic fold, letting them engage with both artists and the general public in an honest and supportive atmosphere.
Our space is at the heart of Sukhumvit in Bangkok and provides a focal point for local artists and renowned artists by providing a space for exhibitions and social events.
Our resident artists are welcomed into this art community. We aim to provide artists the space, time and freedom to focus on their practice, absorb stimulus, new concepts and inspiration.
Our space is open 24-7 situated in the heart of Bangkok at W District nearby Phrakanong BTS Sky Train ( Sukhumvit 69 – 71) Within a 5 story building consisting of a cafe/ bar, gallery space, studios, artist accommodation, rooftop kitchen and social space.
Criteria
The artists we accept are contemporary artists with an interest or practice in collaboration. We aim to support the production of ideas and art works to develop understanding between cultures. We expect innovation and collaborative relationships to blossom from this residency and actively benefit the individual artist as well as the creative communities.
Successful artists are chosen on the basis of quality and innovation of work, potential benefits to the applicants, the organization and to the broader art community. Decisions are ultimately subject to the availability of the residency.
Required Information
Proposals should address the applicant’s reasons for wanting to undertake the studio residency and an outline of their projects. Applicants should submit the following information:

4 Visual material (up to five examples of previous works)

Decisions
Decisions are made by the Selection Committee which is made up of the directors of HOF Art and Surface Arts, gallery staff and other arts professionals. Applicants will be advised of results by e-mail.
Residency Fee (Paid by Artists)
35000THB per month, per artist
Benefits included:
- Discount card for HOF café bar,
- BTS Smart Pass
- Free access to workshops at HOF and invitations to art events in Bangkok
- Staff support to produce activities linked to artistic practices; such as workshop, presentation etc.
- Pick up and drop off service for artists from Airport/ Bus/ Train station
- Welcome tour
- Local maps, transport maps and art maps
- Free tea and coffee and drinking water
- Towel and bedding and bin bags provided
Shorter stays can be negotiated but we feel one month is the minimum time to get the best benefits from the residency program.
Fees for artist duos and artists accompanied by life partner and family members can be negotiated.
Artists need to pay for their own airfare and transportation to Bangkok, health insurance, visa fees, living expenses, work material and any other expenses.
Once the residency is confirmed, we expect half of the fee to be paid before artists arrive by bank transfer or pay pal (details of which will be sent via email). This is non-refundable and will secure your place in the residency. The second half of the fee must be paid within 7 days of commencing the residency.
Sponsorship
We are currently looking for sponsors for our program to enable us to offer a grant to artists in the future.

Surface Arts Annual Touring Exhibition (UK- Thailand)
Through this residency Surface Arts organises an annual exhibition. We are currently developing an exchange program between Thailand and UK and will curate an exhibition involving all of the artists who have participated in the residency and the artists they have chosen to collaborate with.
